General Manager, Buzznet.com (Los Angeles, CA)

BUZZMEDIA, the web’s fastest growing pop culture publisher reaching over 100MM visitors worldwide and operator of over 30 of the web’s leading music and entertainment news brands is looking for a General Manager to lead one of its businesses, Buzznet.com, as a General Manager.

Roles/ Responsibilities:
The General Manager will be responsible for growing Buzznet and continuing to strengthen its position as one of the top digital publishers for youth culture.  The General Manager will own the site’s day to day operations including but not limited to:

  • Overseeing a team of 6 employees including a managing editor, fashion, music and pop culture editors, a marketing manager and a community manager
  • Checking the site’s daily metrics and analyzing the data to inform short and long-term business decisions on everything from what to cover, who to work with and what to build.
  • Responsible for hitting company’s budgeted metrics in unique users, pageviews, visits, repeat visitors and other goals
  • Working closely with other departments within the company such as:
    • Sales and Integrated Marketing to devise and execute sponsorship programs (ie; around music festivals, content franchises, video series, super user activation programs, etc…)
    • Artist relations to secure exclusives, interviews, and promotions with artists and celebrities
    • Other sites’ editors including Celebuzz, PureVolume, AbsolutePunk and others to share content, cross link and build large cross-site program
    • Partner relations to help drive Buzznet’s cross-linking strategy with 3rd parties
  • Working with the site’s managing editor to hold daily/ weekly brainstorms and other meetings, overseeing deadlines and ensuring overall quality of content is improving and ultimately, at its best
  • Work closely with the product manager to determine and prioritize the product roadmap as well as schedule the release of new products and features
  • Over-seeing the site’s marketing strategy including but not limited to growing Buzznet’s social media footprint, promotions, marketing partnerships, PR, events, brand development, cross marketing with other BUZZMEDIA properties and more
  • Developing the site’s Super User strategy including the process of recruitment, management, and measurement

Skills & Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of management experience including managing other full time employees
  • 3 – 5 years of digital media experience including excellent knowledge of social media particularly facebook, twitter and tumblr
  • Minimum 5 years publishing/editorial experience
  • Working knowledge and comfort with analytics systems like Google Analytics, Omniture, Web Trends or other comparable services
  • Great communication and leadership skills including the ability to convey goals, measure successes and inspire others
